## Tax on investments, inheritance and wealth

St. Kitts and Nevis has had no personal income tax since 1980 and has no inheritance, estate, gift or wealth tax. Capital gains are untaxed unless the asset is sold within one year of purchase (then at most 20% under the Income Tax Act). Dividends are not taxed for residents. Real estate transfers bear 6-10% seller stamp duty and a 10% alien landholding licence for non-resident buyers. Citizenship by investment from USD 250,000 (Sustainable Island State Contribution).

- **Ordinary residence**: No personal income tax; no estate or wealth taxes.

## Income tax

There is no individual income tax. Employees pay 5% social security up to XCD 6,500 a month and a graduated Housing and Social Development Levy (3.5%, 10%, 12%) on monthly earnings above XCD 2,253.

## How to get residence

EU, US and other passport holders all need a permit or citizenship to live here; there is no free movement. The cheapest way to a passport is the Sustainable Island State Contribution from USD 250,000 (or USD 250,000 to a public benefit project; real estate from USD 325,000). Ordinary residence routes (homeowner, self-sufficient temporary residence) exist but could only be sourced from secondary guides.

- **Citizenship by Investment: Sustainable Island State Contribution (SISC)** (Citizenship by investment; EU citizens, US citizens, other passports; open): A non-refundable contribution of USD 250,000 to the national fund gives citizenship with no residence requirement.
- **Citizenship by Investment: Real estate** (Citizenship by investment; EU citizens, US citizens, other passports; open): Buy into an approved development from USD 325,000, or an exclusive private property from USD 600,000.
- **Citizenship by Investment: Public Benefit Option** (Citizenship by investment; EU citizens, US citizens, other passports; open): USD 250,000 to an approved public benefit project (e.g. affordable housing, a school, a beach resort) instead of the national fund.
- **Homeowner / self-sufficient residence** (Passive income / retirement; EU citizens, US citizens, other passports; open): People who own property or can show they support themselves and have health insurance can get annual residence permits; a permanent route is reported but unsourced.

Citizenship: Ordinary naturalisation under the Citizenship Act is reported at 14 years of residence immediately before the application (government service can shorten it); good character required. Not read in full from the statute.

## Inheritance law and trusts

Saint Kitts and Nevis has no forced heirship in the sources read. Nevis offers international trusts that foreign heirship rules cannot attack, and a Multiform Foundation. The Hague Trusts Convention is not in force.
