## At a glance

For an EU-citizen family of five living off a EUR 30M portfolio (the guide's default reader).

- Ruled out: Weak rule of law; Severe corruption; Severe corruption; Comprehensive international sanctions
- Tax on a €30M portfolio: €125,100 a year
- Wealth tax: none
- Children inherit: tax-free
- Living costs, family of five: €263,111 a year

## Tax on investments, inheritance and wealth

Not a realistic option: sanctions, capital controls and suspended tax treaties make holding or moving a global portfolio from Russia impractical. On paper (from 2025), residents pay 13% on investment income (dividends, securities gains, property sales) up to RUB 2.4 million a year and 15% above. Property held more than the minimum period (3 or 5 years) is exempt on sale. Inheritances are not taxed, nor are gifts from family members and close relatives. There is no wealth tax.

- **Ordinary tax residence**: Ordinary residence; worldwide income. From 2025 a five-band scale (13–22%) applies to the main tax base, and a separate 13%/15% scale applies to investment income.

## Inheritance law and trusts

Minor or disabled children, a disabled spouse and disabled parents are guaranteed half of their intestate share. Russia has no trust law and is outside the Hague Trusts Convention. Choice of foreign law is unconfirmed.

On paper (from 2025), residents pay 13% on investment income (dividends, securities gains, property sales) up to RUB 2.4 million a year and 15% above.
