## At a glance

For an EU-citizen family of five living off a EUR 30M portfolio (the guide's default reader).

- Score for a wealthy family: 71 / 100
- Tax on a €30M portfolio: €48,600 a year
- Wealth tax: none
- Children inherit: tax-free
- EU member: no
- Currency: KWD
- Capital: Kuwait City

## Tax on investments, inheritance and wealth

Kuwait imposes no personal income tax: no tax on individuals' capital gains or dividends, and no wealth, inheritance or gift tax. Corporate tax (15%) applies only to foreign-owned businesses; Kuwaiti and GCC-owned companies pay zakat and other levies instead, and large multinationals the 15% DMTT. Residence for foreigners is largely tied to employment or sponsorship.

- **Kuwait residence**: No personal taxes.

## Inheritance law and trusts

Muslim estates follow Sharia fixed shares under the Personal Status Law of 1984. Non-Muslim communities may use their own law, but what applies to a non-Muslim foreigner was not confirmed. Kuwaiti law reportedly does not recognise trusts, and private foundations are not available.

#### Summary

Kuwait imposes no personal income tax: no tax on individuals' capital gains or dividends, and no wealth, inheritance or gift tax. Corporate tax (15%) applies only to foreign-owned businesses; Kuwaiti and GCC-owned companies pay zakat and other levies instead, and large multinationals the 15% DMTT. Residence for foreigners is largely tied to employment or sponsorship.

#### Residence and eligibility

Kuwait tax law does not define individual tax residence (PwC); there is no personal income tax.

- **Residence permit (sponsorship / investor)** (EU, US, OTHER): Residence for foreigners is generally tied to an employer or family sponsor. A newer foreigners' residence law (2024) provides for investor and long-term residence; terms not verified.

#### Capital gains

No personal income tax, so no tax on individuals' capital gains (PwC).

- **Rate basis:** No PIT regime in Kuwait.
- **Professional trader:** Not relevant for individuals; foreign corporate bodies doing business in Kuwait pay 15% CIT on gains.
- **Confidence:** high (partially_verified), verified 2026-10-15.
- **JSON numbers:** headline 0.0; listed domestic 0.0, listed foreign 0.0, private business 0.0, local real estate 0.0, foreign real estate 0.0.

#### Dividends

No tax on dividends received by individuals.

- **Rate basis:** No PIT regime in Kuwait.
- **Outbound WHT:** No general WHT on dividends paid to individuals; tax retention of 5% applies to certain contract payments (PwC).
- **Treaty network:** Large treaty network (PwC withholding-tax table lists many treaty partners); no treaty with the United States.
- **Confidence:** high (partially_verified), verified 2026-10-15.
- **JSON numbers:** headline 0.0, domestic 0.0, foreign gross 0.0, credit method `not_applicable`.

#### Inheritance and gifts to children

No inheritance, estate or gift tax.

- **Gift tax:** None.
- **Foreign assets:** No tax on any asset.
- **Domicile rules:** Not relevant.
- **Important exceptions:** Succession, not tax, is the issue: personal status law based on Sharia governs the estates of Muslims (fixed shares; a son typically takes twice a daughter's share; at most one third freely disposable by will to non-heirs). How estates of non-Muslim foreigners are handled (law of nationality, own religious rules, or Sharia by default) was not verified here; non-Muslim families should take local legal advice.
- **Confidence:** medium (partially_verified), verified 2026-10-15.
- **JSON numbers:** basis `none`, children `fully_exempt`, exemption 0, brackets none, other transfer cost 0.0.

#### Wealth tax

No net wealth tax.

- **Property taxes:** No annual property tax on individuals was found.
- **Confidence:** medium (partially_verified), verified 2026-10-15.
- **JSON:** type `none`.

#### Special regimes

None modelled. No special tax regime for newly arriving wealthy residents was found.

#### Company taxation (kept separate from personal tax)

15% CIT only on foreign 'corporate bodies' and the foreign-owned share of GCC companies doing business in Kuwait. Kuwaiti shareholding companies pay 1% zakat and 1% KFAS; a 15% DMTT applies to MNE groups with revenue of EUR 750M+ from 2025.

#### Cost of living notes

No cost-of-living items were sourced in this pass.

**US citizens:** US citizens remain fully US-taxed; no US-Kuwait income tax treaty, and no Kuwaiti tax to credit.

#### Open questions

- Succession rules for non-Muslim foreigners not verified.
