#### Summary

Barbados has no capital gains, inheritance, gift or wealth tax, but it does tax resident and domiciled individuals on worldwide income at 11.5% up to BBD 50,000 and 27.5% above (2026). Local dividends bear a 15% final withholding tax; foreign dividends are taxed at the marginal rate with a foreign tax credit. Resident but non-domiciled individuals are taxed on foreign income only to the extent a benefit is obtained in Barbados. Real estate and private-company share transfers bear 2.5% property transfer tax plus 1% stamp duty. Treaty network of 30-40 countries, including the US and UK.

#### Residence and eligibility

Resident if present more than 182 days in a calendar year, or ordinarily resident. For non-domiciled individuals 'ordinarily resident' may apply: a permanent home in Barbados and election to reside for at least two consecutive income years. Domicile follows common law. Routes: Welcome Stamp (12 months, USD 50,000 income, USD 2,000/3,000 fee, holders not liable to income tax); SERP (amounts unverified).

#### Capital gains

No CGT (PwC, Deloitte, Invest Barbados). JSON 0. Property transfer tax 2.5% on the value of land with buildings above BBD 150,000 (on the whole value of land without buildings) and on private-company shares above BBD 50,000, plus stamp duty BBD 10 per BBD 1,000 (1%). Listed shares on the Barbados Stock Exchange are exempt. Gains from trading are taxed as business income at income tax rates; there are no specific capital gains rules.

#### Dividends

Standard (resident and domiciled): local dividends 15% final WHT (JSON domestic 0.15); foreign dividends at the top marginal rate 27.5% for 2026 (PIT cut from 12.5%/28.5% to 11.5%/27.5% for income year 2026, PwC significant developments) with foreign tax credit not reducing Barbados tax below 1% of taxable income (JSON foreign 0.275, credit). 2% foreign exchange fee on some foreign-currency transactions.

#### Inheritance and gifts to children

No inheritance, estate or gift tax (Invest Barbados; Deloitte 2026). Gifts may attract property transfer tax 2.5% and stamp duty 1% on land and private-company shares. JSON basis none, fully_exempt.

#### Wealth tax

None. Land tax 0-1% of improved value for residences.

#### Special regimes

Resident non-domiciled: foreign income taxed only to the extent a benefit is obtained in Barbados (PwC; Deloitte). JSON foreign dividends 0 assuming nothing is enjoyed in Barbados. Welcome Stamp: 12-month remote-work visa, holders not liable to income tax (official page); JSON dividends 0, duration 1 year.

Duration and remittance (second pass, 2026-10-15): the resident non-domiciled basis has no statutory time limit and no deemed-domicile rule is reported (PwC, reviewed 9 October 2026); it lasts while the family keeps a foreign domicile under common law and ends if a Barbados domicile of choice is acquired. The JSON 0% on foreign dividends assumes no remittance: the dividends are kept and spent outside Barbados and no benefit is obtained in Barbados. Any foreign income from which a benefit is obtained in Barbados is taxed at 11.5%/27.5%.

#### Company taxation (kept separate from personal tax)

Corporate income tax 9% in general (5.5% for some companies; 0-2% insurance; 4.5% qualifying IP income). Qualified domestic minimum top-up tax of 15% from 2024 for MNE groups with revenue of EUR 750m+. Dividends to non-residents: 0% from foreign-source income, 5% otherwise, treaty rates 0-15%.

#### Change log

- 2026-10-15: initial research.
- 2026-10-15: second pass. Added duration_note to resident_non_domiciled (no statutory limit; ends on acquiring a Barbados domicile of choice) and stated in its eligibility_conditions that the 0% foreign-dividend rate assumes no remittance/benefit in Barbados. Added cost of living: west-coast 4-5 bed rent USD 14,000/month (Barbados Sotheby's) and Codrington School 2026-27 IB tuition USD 23,350 (regular rate).
- 2026-10-15: flagged `welcome_stamp` as requiring employment or a qualifying activity (`requires_qualifying_activity`), so it is no longer used as the best regime for a passive investor family unless the user opts in.
- 2026-10-15: family rent re-checked against the upper-middle-class standard: changed from USD 14,000 to USD 6,000 (The Farm, Christ Church, St Michael).
